Favorite winery is Cameron of Dundee. John Paul, winemake r and owner, is as talented as he is and he excels inmany vinifera, and his products are bargains, in relative terms. I am also very pleasex with the wines fromArgyle (in Dundee), and Belle Pented (Carlton). They bring quality wine to the table, and constantly produce some of the best with regard to valueand style. Best value wineriesw and such--Bridgeview, in Cave Junction, must be the best at value. Eveshakm Wood (Salem) has been producing greatt bargains, in pinot gris, and gewurztraminer; and another values is Erath Vineyards (Dundee), especially in pinott blanc and gris.
An additional The quality of Oregonwhite wines, especialy in the past five has risen dramatically, giving our statd greater credibility in the wine-buying world. Joe partner, Portland Wine Storage in Southeast Portlaned Favorite Oregon wine isCarlio & Julian Winery Pinot Noir. They make a regular as well asa vineyard-designate d "Croft Vineyard," which is a few dollarsd more, released later in the year, and is quite Both the price and the high quality make this wine great for the noviced experience of Oregon pinot as well as the old This wine reflects what was put into it and doesn'ft go for the cheap thrill or suggestiv e label description seen It's been my consistent, loyal, non-sell out friend for every vintagre I've lived in Oregon.
It has flavors of dried cherriexs with a hint of cassiasand spice. Enjoy with roast Favorite vineyard is, again, Croft Vineyard from Carloo & Julian Winery. I have triee some other Croft wines and they have beengreat too. The C&J winerh is great. Part of the appeal and fame of Oregon wine hasbeen it'zs low-key, small production, and beliefg in terroir. Many wineries in Oregonb today don't demonstrate this C&J is not out to distract or compromisr itself from making the best wineit can. It has left it up to the consumefr to find and appreciate its Some of the best values in Oregon winesd come fromSouthern Oregon.
This is also where you find varietiesx besides pinot noir and pinot As far aspinotg goes, Eveshem Wood makex a great, reliable wine founcd everywhere. Springhill Cellars (Albany) is also good value. A lot of wineriea are now solely focusing on pinot noir and are phasing outtheir whites. There are greatf whites being sold for much less than normakl in order to move them I would be looking for some of thoses deals from the wineriesthis Thanksgiving. I'vs really enjoyed trying Oregon wines these last four Every year has been a good vintagedsince I've been here.
Theree are so many wineries, all producing good I have found the most pleasure by just enjoyinywhat I'm drinking and not trying to comparer each to each other. They all have something worth Just as parents are discouraged from comparinfg their kids to other kids and are encouraged to focus on and nurtur theindividual within, wine drinkers need to keep their focus inside the glassd they are enjoying because when you compare wineds with each other you always create a Karin Devencenzi, general manager, Southpark Seafoocd Grill & Wine Bar in downtown Portland My absolutde favorite Oregon wine is Beaux Frèrese Pinot Noir 1999.
This is a very deep, concentrater pinot noir with firm structurer and flavors of currantand blackberry. It tastee great right now and I'm sure it will be greag for yearsto come. By working in the industryg formany years, my husband and I have discoveredd many wines. We participated in a tasting of many, many pino t noirs from all over the world and both thoughg thatBeaux Frères (Newberg) was one of the best. My favorite Oregon winery is Domaine This French-owned winery in Dundee produces wines in a very Europeanh style. Every vintage develops beautifully, especiallhy after five years or so.
In our wine shop we offef a selection of Oregon wines that we thinko offerexceptional value. Evesham Wood "Willamette Valley" Pino Noir 2001. This is Russ Raney'xs entry level pinot noir. It has all of the Eveshamj Wood elegance without thehighere price. Nice, raspberry and strawberry fruit, soft and easy to Another great value is the A toZ "Willamettre Valley" Pinot Gris 2002, from A to Z in This wine is blended from grapes across It has lemon/lime, sweet tart flavord with excellent acidity.
Another wonderful wine offered at a greay value is Ken Wright Cellars PinoyBlanc 2002, from Ken Wright Cellers in It has a clear, greenish gold color with fresh melon and mint aromas. It's full and brighft and has a rich full Jeremy Karp, partner, Vigne Wine Bar in Northwestr Portland Evesham Wood Cuvee "J" is the most balanced pinoty noir from Oregon and has wonderfuo finesse. My favorite wineries are Eveshamk Woodand J. Christopher. I realluy love Charlie's Vineyard whichh is bottled by J. Christopher. I woul d say that both of the above mentioned wineriews are the best valuexs inthe state. The Charlie's Vineyard by J.
Christopher is biggetr and more tannic thanEvesham Wood'a Cuvee "J" but both are true They are the top wines in each of these wineries' portfolios. The Charlie's Vineyard retail s for less than $30 and the Cuvee "J" retails for for less than $40. For everyday drinking thesew wineries have less expensive bottles that are Tom Reider, wine steward for Wizer's Oswego Foods and Wizer's Lake Grovs Market, both in Lake Oswego Absoluteas only occur in laboratories; however, todat my favorite is Andrew Rich Roussanne--delicious white wine that is spicyh and refreshing, absolutely dry with a florall nose. No oak!
Value wine picks: Evesham Wood Pinoy Noir 2002--great vintage, very fairly priced, ready-to-drink, perfect balancer and Abacela VintnersBlend 2002--a cuvee of traditional French, California, Italian red varietals that is both spicy and Great with grilled foods. Davide Holstrom, proprietor of wine consulting firm Guy du Vin in Southeasr Portland If I have to pick just one absolute I would say that it was the Evesham Wood Cuvee PinotNoir 1993. I was lucky to get some of this wine when I firsy movedto Oregon. The last bottld that I tasted was showin beautifully with ripe red and blackl fruit still showinggreat concentration.
Elegant, velvety--everything one could wish for inpinort noir, with superb earthgy notes. Drinking this wine has made me abetter person. I first tasted Eveshamj Wood wines 10 years ago when I was running the wine programm for a restaurant here in I think that Russ owner and winemaker ofEvesham Wood, makes pinoy noir that is really true to the graped and truly expressive, especiall in regard to texture. I have been a fan ever sinces first tastinghis wine.
As far as a favorite Oregonh wineryor vineyard, I thinm the best way to answer is to say that I hold Eveshamn Wood, Cameron, and Cristom Vineyards all at the same I think that Raney, Cameron'e John Paul and Cristom's Steve Doerner consistently make some of the best wine not only in but in the New World. The wines are all differenyt in style and maturse inindividual ways, but I am neveer disappointed in their wine. Look for value wineas among any of the entrg level pinot noirsfrom Cameron--the Arley's Leap is soft and approachabls right now--or Evesham A to Z produces a very inexpensive pinot noir that is ready to drink.
Pinogt gris from Belle Pente is done usuallyg in an Alsatian style and is consistently one of the bestin Oregon. Lemelson Vineyardzs makes a greatdry Riesling. If you like easy soft and fruit-forward pinot Domaine Serene "Yamhill" Cuvee is a good
