Navteq, which provides digital map said in a Wednesday release that Garmim woulduse Navteq’s traffic alert and interactiv e ad services for the nuvi 2x5 and nuvi 7x5 familiees of navigation devices. Fiancial terms of the deal werenot disclosed. Productsx with the service should appear in storesin October, Garmimn spokeswoman Carly Bates said This is the first time a service on Garmimn products will show ads, she said. Previously, users subscribed for a fee toget real-timse traffic data. Traffic data will be delivere to navigation devices throughFM radio, letting drivers avoi traffic accidents, road closures and construction.
The unit to offer the service come standard with a trafficf receiver that can provide alerts forcovereds areas, which include major metropolitan areas. Advertising, delivered the same way, would be contextually allowing users to click on ads to view businesss information and a route to get Ads for nearby businesses will appear along the bottom of the screenj only when the vehicle has been stopped for at leas10 seconds.
