One program is a master of arts in theologyt and the other is a masted oftheological studies. The Higher Learning Commission of the North Centra Association of Colleges and Schools approved the twoprogramz Thursday. Newman has been developing the programs for more than a year througjh an initiative led by FatherJosepj Gile, Newman assistant professor of theology and director of the new programs, and Michael Austin, Newman’s provost and vice president for academid affairs.
“These two degrees align perfectly with the mission and core value ofNewman University, and offer outstanding opportunities for peoplew throughout our region wanting to advance in theier knowledge of theology,” said Noreenb Carrocci, Newman president in a statement. “We can’t wait to get The programs offer different focusea and are designed for studentd withdifferent goals, Newman The master of arts in theologu degree is primarily for students who want to ultimately earn a doctorapl degree in theology, while the theological studies degree will provide skillsa training for people to teach religion The degree programs will be available to people throughoutf the region.
Classes will be deliveres largely via the Internet using new computer and videoo equipment purchased just forthis initiative. The onlinwe classes are designed to be interactive and visually engaging by usingvideo clips, PowerPoint presentations and other electronic media, Newman says.
